Stay safe this Thanksgiving

Español

As we head into the Thanksgiving break, it’s a good time to reflect on all we are grateful for. I keep thinking about our incredible school district, and how much everyone has accomplished since we began the reopening process this past summer. I cannot say “thank you” enough to the teachers who have worked tirelessly to prioritize health and safety while delivering a quality education to more than 115,000 students.

Thank you, also, to our students, staff and parents for your patience these past couple of months as we worked together. It has been a learning experience for us all, and it wouldn’t have been possible without everyone giving a little extra, on purpose—that’s lagniappe!

One way I would like you to give “a little extra” over the break is by staying vigilant to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Although we will be out of school, we are counting on everyone’s personal responsibility to carry us safely through the rest of the semester. Limiting your gatherings, wearing masks, maintaining a safe distance from others, and frequent handwashing are all ways we can ensure that the school year continues successfully. The video below from our high school mascots encourages us to “Mask Up, CFISD!”

I am always impressed by the talent and creativity among our young men and women in CFISD. I know they can continue to find ways to connect with one another over break while doing it in a safe manner. This video created by Cypress Woods High School students simulates a virtual gathering among friends.

When we show Responsibility for One, we can have Opportunity for All!

I hope you all cherish your Thanksgiving break. Spend time with loved ones, eat delicious food, rest your mind and body and count your blessings. If you are going to spend time with extended family, please do it safely. Enjoy your time off, and I will see you back on Nov. 30.
