Today, House Speaker Joe Straus announced that State Rep.
Dan Huberty, a former area board member and an advocate for public education,
was selected as chairman of the House Public Education Committee. This is great
news for Texas public schools, who for years had the support of recently
retired former Chairman Jimmie Don Aycock.
Rep. Huberty has served District 127 in the Texas House of
Representatives since 2011, and has significant experience on the Public Education
Committee. His background in public education will serve him well in his
current role. He served as a member on the Humble ISD Board of Trustees for
five years. In his last year as a trustee, he served as the board president.
Rep. Huberty and his vice chair, Rep. Diego Bernal, will lead
nine other committee members. One of them is District 138 Rep. Dwayne Bohac, whose district partially covers CFISD. Congratulations, as well, to Rep. Bohac! Visit
the TASA website for a full committee listing.
Congratulations to Rep. Huberty on this appointment. Our
students will be in good hands under his leadership!
